Port St. Lucie police say a man who shot and killed another man during a deadly double shooting over the weekend acted in self-defense and will not face charges.The shooting happened early Sunday morning at a home on Southeast Rivergreen Circle, west of U.S. 1.Police said the incident began when the girlfriend of one of the men who died, Carl Loubeau, became locked out of a house and called him to bring her a key. Investigators said an argument followed that stemmed from jealousy and are now identifying Loubeau as the primary aggressor. So, it appears that Julian was standing beside the open driver’s door, reaching into the vehicle when Carl approached him from that same side of the vehicle and opened fire on him. Dwayne was in close proximity, probably somewhere around the trunk lid of the Mustang at the time when he was approached, and he backpedaled. Now, he’s on the passenger side of the Mustang and starts firing on Carl, who is now retreating and firing. The two were in an active gunfight.” Port St. Lucie Police Chief Leo Niemczyk said.According to police, Loubeau shot and killed Juliun Stokes during the argument. He knows his auntie loves kisses. Every time he saw me, he gave me a hug and gave me a kiss on my jaw,” she said. “He was spoiled by me in particular. He was my baby; he was like a son to me. He has two little girls; one is about to be 4, and the other one is about to be 2.”Stokes’ aunt is also calling for an end to gun violence.”Life is precious, and when you shoot — when you kill someone or if you are the victim of gun violence, you know, it affects families, it affects friends. You know, we’re hurting, we’re hurting,” Angelia Stokes said.Niemczyk said the shooting is a tragic reminder of how quickly personal disputes can turn deadly.”It’s just a horrible choice for a solution of a problem that is nowhere near that complex. They’re fighting over a girl. There are plenty of women in the world. Do you want to take the chance of being killed, killing someone, and going to prison for the rest of your life, or worse, over a lost relationship? It makes no sense. So when you become emotionally charged, you have to slow down, think, give yourself a minute and gain some clarity,” Niemczyk said. Port St. Lucie police confirmed Walker was legally carrying a firearm and was not injured in the shooting. At this time, he is not facing charges. The investigation is still ongoing.
