The budget proposal includes more than $1 billion allocated to JSO and JFRD, as well as more than $500 million in Capital Improvement Plan funds.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan presented her Fiscal Year 2026-2027 budget proposal to the Jacksonville City Council Monday, calling the budget “bold and thoughtful,” reflective of the people it serves.

The more than $2 billion city budget proposal includes increases for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department to continue providing their services. The two agencies would receive more than $1 billion.

The budget also includes more than $500 million towards a Capital Improvement Plan, aimed at various infrastructure projects across the city. This includes a $13.2 million increase to the city’s roadway resurfacing budget, and a $16 million increase in the septic tank phaseout project budget.

The mayor’s proposed budget also includes $24 million towards UF Health capital improvements and more than $7 million in direct health services.

Deegan argues the budget will create a major return on investment for the city, specifically in flood mitigation projects. She said her proposal keeps building on Jacksonville’s momentum.

“Jacksonville is a city on the rise, and our proposed budget continues that momentum,” said Mayor Donna Deegan. “Every spending decision we make is geared to deliver a positive return for our citizens and make Jacksonville more affordable. We do that by making it healthier, safer, more competitive, more prosperous, and more prepared for the future.”

Mayor Deegan’s office released a series of town halls over August and September as the Jacksonville City Council reviews the budget proposal and votes to approve at the end of September.
