Plantation, FL – A 4-year-old boy was taken to a hospital Saturday night after being found unresponsive in the water during a near drowning incident in Plantation.
According to Plantation Police, officers responded around 7:46 p.m. to a reported drowning at 4650 W. Broward Blvd.
Authorities said the child was removed from the water by an adult, who immediately began performing CPR before police officers and fire rescue personnel arrived.
Emergency responders provided additional medical care at the scene before transporting the child to Broward Health Medical Center.
Police said the boy remained in critical but stable condition.
Authorities have not released additional details about what led to the incident, and an investigation into the near drowning remains underway.
The case follows several other recent water related emergencies involving children across South Florida.
Officials previously reported a 2-year-old child nearly drowned in North Lauderdale.
Earlier, a 2-year-old boy died after being found in a Plantation lake.
Last month, a 14-year-old boy drowned while swimming near North Redland Road and Northwest 12th Street.
His family later filed a lawsuit against three companies, alleging the property owners failed to properly maintain and secure the area.
The Florida Department of Health warns that drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death among children ages 1 to 4 in the state.
Safety experts recommend multiple prevention measures, including active adult supervision, barriers around water areas, alarms, swimming lessons and CPR training.
