Fort Myers is planning to create a 46-acre park and preserve at its southern boundary on land Lee County had previously zoned for commercial development. During a public hearing at the July 20 City Council meeting, council members agreed to annex 15.36 acres at 13200 Treeline Ave. from Lee County, adjoining 30.83 acres the city recently annexed.
The city-owned property, just north of Daniels Parkway on Treeline Avenue, includes a large lake, natural wetlands and upland preservation areas.
At a future City Council meeting, officials plan to rezone the property from Lee County General Interchange and Commercial Planned Development to the City of Fort Myers Recreation zoning.
