PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — Pinellas Park leaders said Tuesday evening they are not considering any proposed data center plans until a moratorium gets voted on.
That means plans for a small data center will likely not happen for at least a year if an ordinance gets passed.
A developer called American Tower recently submitted a proposal to build a data center in the northwest part of Pinellas Park.
Despite that, city leaders told people who came to yesterday’s meeting that they’re not considering any development proposals right now.
They say a pause would help them determine how data centers fit into their existing regulations.
“We have staff. We have the state that looks at these things,” said Pinellas Park City Manager Bart Diebold. “We have local noise ordinances in place. We have laws in place. All those things are covered. We’re just saying tonight we want time to sit back. And if they pass this, look at these for the data centers alone.”
City council will hold a public hearing on the moratorium at their next meeting on August 11.
A final vote would come later.
