A concerned motorist’s report of an erratic driver on US Highway 441 and Interstate 75 quickly turned into a dangerous series of encounters after Florida deputies say a woman repeatedly refused to stop and put countless other drivers at risk.
According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy M. Davis was approached by another driver who reported seeing a gray Nissan SUV being driven erratically on both US 441 and I-75. The caller told deputies the driver appeared to be endangering herself and everyone else on the road.
Deputies soon located the SUV entering northbound Interstate 75 from SW Archer Road. While following the vehicle, Deputy Davis reported observing numerous traffic violations that affected surrounding motorists, including a semi-truck. When he attempted to conduct a traffic stop near mile marker 385, authorities say the driver, later identified as 23-year-old Jennifer Caren Dotzler, refused to stop and instead accelerated away.
According to the sheriff’s office, the pursuit continued only briefly before it was terminated near mile marker 390 because continuing it no longer met the agency’s vehicle pursuit policy.

Deputies Say Driver Refused Three Separate Attempts to Stop
A short time later, Deputy Davis spotted Dotzler stopped at a red light. He activated his emergency equipment again and used his patrol vehicle’s public address system to order her to pull over. Deputies say she once again ignored the commands and drove away.
Authorities located the SUV yet again on NW US Highway 441 near Interstate 75, where deputies and officers with the Alachua Police Department attempted another traffic stop. Investigators say Dotzler again fled, weaving through multiple lanes of traffic, forcing other motorists to take evasive action and driving through an active construction zone, creating an additional hazard for both drivers and road workers.
Law enforcement eventually used vehicle containment tactics in an effort to safely end the incident. Even after her SUV was boxed in, deputies say Dotzler refused repeated commands to exit and instead attempted to drive into the patrol vehicles surrounding her.
Deputies then deployed OC spray, commonly known as pepper spray, into the SUV before taking Dotzler into custody without further incident.
Investigators later determined Dotzler had allegedly been under the influence of narcotics for multiple days.
She was arrested on charges of fleeing and eluding law enforcement with lights and sirens activated, fleeing and eluding with disregard for public safety, and resisting an officer without violence. Jail records show Dotzler is being held on a $330,000 bond while awaiting trial.
As with any criminal case, the charges are allegations, and Dotzler is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
