JACKSONVILLE, Ore. – Jacksonville Police are reminding hikers to stay alert as cougar sightings continue in the Britt Trail system.
The first reported sighting occurred in late May in the Rich Gulch/Britt Gardens area near Panorama View Point. Nearly two months later, police say they are still receiving reports of a cougar in the area.
Police say there have been no reports of aggressive behavior, but they encourage hikers and other trail users to remain aware of their surroundings.
Jacksonville Police recommend keeping pets on a leash, avoiding hiking alone, and reporting any cougar sightings or encounters to law enforcement. Officers say they will continue monitoring the area for additional reports.
