TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray Capital Bureau) – ICE agents won’t be at polling places in Florida, Leon County’s Supervisor of Elections Mark Earley confirmed in an interview on Wednesday.
Earley made the remark during public testing of the capital county’s voting machines, which have so far passed all benchmarks. The event, which was attended by the League of Women Voters and local media, also tests the auditing system.
The supervisor of elections also said that if James Fishback, or any other candidate for that matter, is eventually ruled ineligible, any votes cast for him won’t be part of the results. That means any votes for Fishback can’t be changed, even if a judge rules him ineligible next week.
Across the state, more than 58,000 GOP primary ballots have already been returned, but it’s not yet clear how many of those voters cast their ballot for Fishback. After a tension filled day in court, a Leon County Circuit Judge will decided by 5 p.m. on Monday whether or not he stays on the ballot.
Primary election day is August 18 in Florida, with the general election to follow in November.
