DUNEDIN, Fla. — Work is over!

Grab a drink.

And test some recipes.

It’s time to show how our forebearers survived–through pickling.

And it’s courtesy of Tampa Bay area Chef John Barbie of Tip Top Canning Company.

We stopped in on a pickling class at the Dunedin House of Beer.

“I’ve got Tampa, St. Pete, Dunedin and Plant City,” said Barbie, talking about his cities where he passed on the pickling prowess.

Randi Horton is a repeat visitor and has returned with her mahjong buddies.

“They came over and they ate the pickles, and they were like ‘This is amazing. How did you do this?’ And I said, ‘let me tell you,’” said Horton.

And the tell—it turned into a *show and smell.

Julie Closer is after new experiences–and new recipes.

“It’s funny, it’s educational, it’s entertaining, and everything we’ve done smells so fantastic,” said Closer.

But Barbie’s recipes aren’t new to him.

they come from his grandfather Joe Tambuuzo who ran tip top grocery store in Ybor City.

“When it comes to any family get together, it’s about the food, and our family has all these recipes- and I take from my past with passion and love and I put it in my product.”

It’s a pickle passion—and part of Tampa’s culinary history.

Also in development – a class on making the perfect Bloody Mary.
