There a big shakeup at St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens.
The school has announced President David Armstrong has been placed on leave.
The university released this statement:
David Armstrong is on leave from St. Thomas University while the university investigates allegations of conduct in violation of university policy. No further information is available at this time, pending any findings from the investigation. We will provide additional information as appropriate.
Rev. Rafael Capo has been appointed interim administrator and is managing all duties of the president. Father Capo has been with St. Thomas University since 2020, serving as vice president for Mission and Ministry and dean of Theology.
Father Capo was ordained in 1996 and has more than 30 years of experience in Catholic education. He holds a Licentiate in Systematic Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, a Doctorate in Practical Liturgical Theology from Barry University, and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico.
He served for 10 years as director of the Southeastern U.S. Bishops’ Regional Office for Hispanic Ministry. Pope Francis appointed Father Capo a Papal Missionary of Mercy and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) named him a National Eucharistic Preacher.
Armstrong answered his cell phone and had no comment.
