ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — An 18-year-old man has died after a shooting Wednesday afternoon at the Childs Park YMCA.

According to St. Petersburg Police, officers were called to the YMCA in the 600 block of 43rd Street South just after 2 p.m. 

Authorities said the 18-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds, and he later died of his injuries. His name has not being released.

Investigators said that the victim and another 18-year-old man came from Clearwater to the YMCA to purchase a gun. Officials said the pair met Kiese Johnon, 18, and another man there and went into the bathroom to make the transaction.

That’s when the meeting turned violent, authorities said, and gunfire was exchanged. 

In addition to the fatal shooting, Johnson suffered a minor injury to the face and was treated at an area hospital. He was arrested and charged with murder while engaged in a robbery.

Meanwhile, the man who arrived with Johnson remains at large. 

Authorities said an investigation into the incident remains active.
