Now 51 years young, the British roots reggae band Steel Pulse continues to write, record and tour the world, often headlining at reggae festivals where the band is exalted as one of the genre’s most consistent veteran acts. Singer and guitarist David Hinds is the sole original member from the long-ago 1970s.
Steel Pulse is in concert tonight (Thursday, July 23) at England Brothers Park in Pinellas Park – yep, you read that right – and the band is sharing the 6 p.m. bill with none other than the Original Wailers.
Guitarist Al Anderson, who was in the band when Bob Marley was still with us, is the lone Original Wailer.

Going, going …
The Palladium Theater doors will close Aug. 1 for what’s estimated will be a year for renovations, which means that this Saturday’s Side Door Cabaret show will be the penultimate performance in the theater’s smaller space for a while.
There’s a real “last show” scheduled for July 31, but we’ll get to that next week.
Saturday is an all blues and boogie-woogie concert featuring slide guitarist Steve Arvey and fleet-fingered piano man Rev. Billy C. Wirtz. They’ll be joined by Anne Van Atta on bass and Sandi Greco on drums.
