FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — A house fire exposed more than smoke after firefighters uncovered an alleged drug stash, leading to a Fort Pierce man’s arrest on trafficking, fentanyl and gun charges.

Deputies with the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office say they responded to the home of 50-year-old Mario Bryant’s home on the 3400 block of Avenue I on Tuesday for reports of a house fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters say they quickly extinguished the blaze, preventing the home from being completely engulfed.

During a walkthrough of the home, firefighters discovered more than just debris and ashes. They reportedly discovered a large stash of multi-colored pills.

Detectives with the Special Investigation Division responded, confirmed the narcotics, and obtained a search warrant, per SLCSO.

In total, deputies say they seized 270 grams of MDMA, 15 grams of cocaine, 2 grams of fentanyl, 711 grams of marijuana, a Smith & Wesson .38-caliber revolver, and drug materials used to prepare narcotics for distribution.

Bryant was subsequently booked for counts of trafficking in MDMA, possession of fentanyl, possession of marijuana with intent to sell or deliver, possession of cocaine, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The source of the fire has not been identified by investigators at this time.
