ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — After a mother of four was shot and killed on 12th Avenue South in St. Petersburg, those who knew and loved her paid their respects in front of the place she worked.

The suspect, 43-year-old Ladavion King, was detained in Lee County after a standoff with law enforcement.

New body camera footage shows the tense interaction on I-75. Community members in St. Pete said they were still shocked after this seemingly senseless act of violence occurred in their front yards.

“It’s hard, and something of this magnitude is just shocking,” Carolyn Harris said. “You know, we get a little fright here and there, but nothing of this magnitude. We are here to help and to wrap our arms around the community if they need our love, need our prayer. Our doors are always open.”

A memorial is now set up in front of the St. Petersburg sanitation department, where flowers, balloons, and pictures are now displayed in the victim’s honor. Family members say Natasha Moses was killed while taking her lunch break on Wednesday.

“Whoever did it, they came here with that intention to do it and to do it. And the biggest, most publicly displayed way possible while she was at work,” Charles Musgrove, the victim’s brother, said.

Law enforcement said the homicide occurred in broad daylight on Wednesday. St. Petersburg Police Chief Anthony Holloway said the shooting was the product of a domestic dispute.

“Some type of argument started, and during the argument the suspect got into the cab of the front loader and shot her several times,” Holloway said.

New footage from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office was released Thursday, showing the standoff between law enforcement officers and the suspect.

Authorities said King barricaded himself in his car on I-75 and was not responding to commands. It took police dogs, a SWAT team, and extensive resources to apprehend the suspect.

King is currently in serious condition at the hospital, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, the lead agency in this investigation.
