Inside Port St. Lucie police’s new state-of-the-art training facility
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. —
The Port St. Lucie Police Department is opening a new, nearly $30 million training center that officials say will better prepare officers for the challenges they face in the field.

City leaders and police officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday for the new 54,000-square-foot facility, which the department describes as one of the most advanced law enforcement training centers in the country.
The building features an indoor firing range, a tactical shoot house, virtual reality simulators and classrooms designed for scenario-based, hands-on training.
“Officers will learn, train, exceed expectations utilizing cutting-edge technology and advanced training techniques to prepare themselves with situations they will face in the field,” Police Chief Leo Niemczyk said during the ceremony.
The facility, funded by the city and taxpayers, uses technology to place officers in realistic, high-stress training scenarios. Department leaders said the goal is to strengthen decision-making, de-escalation techniques and other skills before officers encounter similar situations on the street.
“When they’re equipped to do their job at the highest possible level, our entire community benefits,” Port St. Lucie Mayor Shannon Martin said.
The department said officers will begin moving into the new training center this weekend as training operations officially transition to the facility.
