Key Biscayne residents can enjoy Polynesian-inspired dining, tropical gardens and a live South Pacific show during the Community Center’s next bus trip on Wednesday, July 29.
The bus will depart the Key Biscayne Community Center at 3 p.m. for the historic MAI-KAI Restaurant and Polynesian Show, located at 3599 N. Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale.
The trip costs $38 per person.
The business, which reopened in 2024 following a four-year closure that involved $20 million in renovations, features beautiful outdoor lagoons, waterfalls and tropical gardens.
Originally opened in 1956, MAI-KAI brings to life the essence of Polynesia including a show featuring the Hawaiian Wedding song, where two young lovers are reunited and finally tie the knot.
Their wedding ceremony features the spirited Tahitians solo drum dance from Polynesia’s annual cultural celebration dubbed the Heiva I Tahiti every performance transports you to the very heart of the South Seas.
Each year, the show pays homage to new aspects of life in the South Pacific at the turn of the century, with amazing attention to detail including hand-sewn costumes with hand-painted tapa cloth, flowers, mother of pearl, feathers, abalone, and other small seashells
