HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – A 32-year-old man was arrested after deputies said he fled a traffic stop during a domestic violence investigation July 22.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded just after 10:30 a.m. after a victim arrived at an urgent care center with multiple bruises and lacerations. The victim told deputies that Anthony Rodriguez Jr. strangled her until she lost consciousness, according to the sheriff’s office.
Detectives identified Rodriguez as a suspect and located him driving nearby. When deputies attempted to stop him, Rodriguez fled before crashing into a ditch, abandoning the vehicle and running away on foot, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies used a Taser during a brief foot pursuit and arrested Rodriguez, according to the agency.
“This man made the choice to abuse someone he believed he could control, and then made another bad decision by trying to run from the consequences,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement.
The sheriff’s office did not release Rodriguez’s charges, jail status or additional information about the victim’s condition.
