TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – For the seventh year, former Florida State football player James Coleman is set for a weekend full of festivities as he’s coming home for his Community Giveback Weekend.
On Saturday, he hosts a backpack giveaway and food distribution at Bond Elementary School. The backpacks will be stuffed with school supplies as the fall semester is just around the corner.
On Sunday, kids ages 6-16 get to take part in a football camp at FAMU DRS.
Coleman told us this week that giving back to the community that helped raise him the right way is his way of saying thanks.
“The story could have went another way and it didn’t,” he said. “I’m so grateful for the people in Tallahassee that did that, and I’m grateful to be able to help some of these young men and women in the city because Tallahassee is such an incredible city. I want kids to know that when you come from here, you’re going to be the next big thing from the city.”
There is still time to register for both events, and you can do so here.
