It’s time to nominate people for Gulfportian of the Year!
A few years ago, we started running “Gulfportian of the Year” features at the end of each year. It’s a way to celebrate the best of Gulfport. Our first Gulfportian of the Year went to Albert Risemberg, in 2021. The next year it went to Marissa Stewart-Dix, and in 2023 it went to Tom Nicholls. Last year, after a horrendous storm season, everyone at Gulfport Brewery proved themselves worthy of the honor.
This year, we will still feature a Gulfportian of the Year on our final issue of the year, but we’re making one change.
You will decide the Gulfportian of the Year.
From nominations to voting, this rests with you, our readers. You will nominate people for Gulfportian of the year, you will vote to decide who wins the honor, and we will write about the winner.
Here’s how it works.
Nominate People for Gulfportian of the Year
Nominations open today, and you can nominate Gulfportians online only at this link. You must provide their name, contact information, and why you think they deserve the honor. We’ll also need their address to verify that they are, indeed, Gulfportians. Finally, we’ll need your name and contact information, too, in case we have questions or can’t reach the person.
Nominations run through Nov. 20, and you can find the finalists in the print edition of The Gabber Newspaper on Nov. 27.
We will verify that all nominees meet the residency criteria. Please nominate people who embody the spirit of Gulfport and make our community a better place by being part of it.
Voting for Gulfportian of the Year
Voting on the finalists starts Dec. 1 on our website. You may only vote once, but anyone can vote, no matter where they live. The only way to vote is online, and we’re using a third-party service that will tabulate the votes.
The Fine Print
A few rules:
The nominees must live in Gulfport. No elected officials are eligible. (As Cameron, our Editor-in-Chief, said, when we discussed this, “If they’re an elected official they should already be doing all the things that would get someone nominated, so this is really just doing their job!”)If a nominee qualifies for the March 2026 election, they will be disqualified. And the winner is…
The winner gets a front-page feature about them in our Jan. 1 issue. They also get bragging rights and a lot of community love.
So let’s get nominating!
