LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – Laredo Heat (12-0-2) find themselves once again with a chance to make some history this time its with an opponent they saw a little over a year ago with a chance at dishing out payback for more than one player on this summers team.
“Its interesting because last year I was at Sarasota and we played Ft. Lauderdale, said Kai Tamashiro Laredo Heat Mid-fielder.” “As well so its a bit of a revenge game for me as well but the guys that were here there was a lot going wrong I think that a lot was out of their control and we are just excited to play them and get the win, said Tamashiro.”
Laredo would find a huge 6-1 win against lone star conference foe gfi academy while the team was missing key pieces it was important to find a win even with some players being out with injury.
“I think the boys are prepared for anything we are I know even if I get I know the boys have my back and the boys have my back and we were able to get a win, Said Mere Escobar Laredo Heat Mid-fielder.”
One of the Heats strengths this season has been the way the defense has been allowed eight goals all year long. One of the anchors of that unit has been Alfonso Soriano even though that’s been one of the teams stronger areas they will need to be even better this weekend.
“I think our defense has been the strong point and I think it will be important and something we are focused on trying to keep a clean sheet, Said Soriano.”
On offense Mere Escobar has been one of the key pieces to the gateway cities soccer franchise’s attack and even though he’s been a leader on the field its been the leadership he has shown that has been just as important.
“I think its a player every team wish for and we are so grateful to have a guy like Mere to keep us accountable, Said Osvaldo Madrid Mid-fielder for the Laredo Heat.”
They will get that chance tonight with kick off coming at 8:30 PM. That will be the 2nd of a double header that evening as Vermont and Asheville will get the ball rolling at 5:30 from PEG Energy Stadium. The two winners will then meet up on Sunday with the victor of that getting the chance to play for the USL 2 National Championship.
