Police on Friday announced a break in a decades-long cold case.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday that DNA found in Cape Coral, Florida, matches that of Rose Marie Gayhart.
Police say her remains were found in a canal by kayakers in May 2024, and a laboratory finally made the match in May 2026.
The former Dansville resident went missing in 1985.
Police say she was last seen getting into a truck with an unknown man.
Cape Coral police are investigating her death as a homicide.
