JACKSONVILLE, NC (WNCT) — Jacksonville police are still searching for information related to a deadly crash on Western Blvd. July 10th.
30-year-old Quentin Aguirre was from Yorktown, Indiana and on vacation in Jacksonville when a driver struck him around 12:30 A.M at the intersection of Gateway Dr. S and Western Blvd. That driver stopped to help when a second came and also struck Aguirre before driving away.
Landon Smith was Aguirre’s longtime friend.
“He was funny, outgoing. He was always one to crack a joke and have everybody laugh,” Smith said. “He would do anything for anybody.
Jacksonville police are still looking for information from witnesses as to what happened and who that second driver is. Earlier this week, police released surveillance video of what appears to be a utility truck who they believe could have more information
“There is a chance here that someone may have not even realized at that time that they had struck something or they struck something in the roadway,” Captain Richard Kellum said. “They may have directed their attention somewhere else and not seen something in the roadway.”
Smith and Aguirre also used to work together.
“We were doing a tree, and we were trying to figure out how to get a rope up in the tree decent and he didn’t car, he climbed up,” Smith said. “Once he got out there, he wanted to make sure he was seen and everybody saw him up there.”
