John Rogers Lannan

OBITUARY

John Lannan, 88, of Chicago and St. Petersburg, FL, passed away peacefully on June 29th, 2026, in Dunedin, FL with family present. Born in Washington, DC, John was the son of John V. and Esther R. Lannan. He attended St. George High School in Evanston, IL, and Loyola University, Chicago. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara Moran and the late Margaret Ayers; loving father of Sean (Anastasia), Eileen, and Edward (Claudia); grandfather of EJ (Amanda), Christopher, John, and Peter. John is survived by his brother Patrick (Jan), nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his sister, Diana. John was a partner at Mastercraft Vending and Coffee Service with his wife (Barbara), son (Edward), and daughter-in-law (Claudia). John was a sponsor and mentor in LINK Unlimited Scholars for underserved youth in the Chicago area and an active supporter of his church communities in Chicago and Florida. He enjoyed tennis, golf, motorcycle treks with his family, and adventure travel. John described how he wanted to live his life by borrowing a quote from Hunter S. Thompson. “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow! What a Ride!’” This is a good summary of how he lived. John will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to Nashoba Learning Group https://nashobalearninggroup.org/ .
