Ron Steiger
Barry University recently announced that Ron Steiger will join the university as vice president of Business and Finance and CFO, effective Aug. 10.
Steiger comes to Barry University from Miami-Dade County Public Schools, where he spent nearly two decades helping guide the financial strategy and operations of one of the nation’s largest public school districts. As chief financial officer, he oversaw a $7.4 billion budget and led work across finance, budgeting, treasury, procurement, risk management, grants, payroll and compliance.
“Ron brings the kind of financial leadership that is in line with Barry University’s vision as we continue to plan for the future with innovation and purpose,” said Mike Allen, PhD, president of Barry University. “He has earned trust across South Florida by bringing clarity to complex issues and keeping the needs of the community at the center of his work. He will be an outstanding addition to our dynamic leadership team at Barry.”
At Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Steiger’s latest endeavors include helping lead major financial initiatives tied to long-term planning, public accountability and operational improvement. In addition, guiding budget development and forecasting, managing annual audit processes that resulted in clean opinions, strengthening treasury and investment operations, supporting credit rating upgrades and overseeing federal stimulus funding after the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Barry University’s mission and commitment to service are deeply meaningful to me,” Steiger said. “I look forward to joining the Barry community and to working with President Allen, faculty, staff and university leaders to support Barry’s students and the institution’s long-term priorities.”
Steiger previously served as cfhief budget officer, assistant chief budget officer and executive director at Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Earlier in his career, he held strategy and analytics roles with Leo Burnett and Arthur Andersen.
He earned a Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business.
Steiger’s appointment reflects Barry University’s continued focus on strong stewardship, thoughtful planning and operational excellence. For more information on Barry University, visit www.barry.edu/.
