Liga MX’s Cruz Azul will clash with MLS’s Lionel Messi and Inter Miami CF in the 2026 Campeones Cup on Sept. 16 at Nu Stadium in Miami.
The Campeones Cup has taken place annually since 2018, featuring a matchup between the reigning champions of the MLS and Liga MX. This year’s matchup is set after Cruz Azul’s 3-1 win over Toluca FC on Saturday, which earned them their Liga MX Campeón de Campeones title.
Cruz Azul proves a strong opponent, earning the Liga MX Clausura 2026 title and holding the best overall record in the 2025-26 season. The club has been to the Campeones Cup one other time in its history, facing the Columbus Crew in 2020 but ultimately losing the matchup 2-0.
Meanwhile, this year’s showdown will mark Inter Miami’s first appearance in the Campeones Cup. The club secured the spot after claiming the 2025 MLS Cup with a 3-1 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Inter Miami is currently amid a successful campaign, ranking second in the Eastern Conference at 11-4-2.
