Orange County Commissioner Maribel Gomez Cordero drops out of race for Clerk of Courts
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. —
In Commitment 2026, one of the candidates for Orange County Clerk is now out of the race.
Orange County Commissioner Maribel Gomez Cordero was running as a Democrat for Orange County Clerk of Courts.
However, former Property Appraiser Rick Singh sued, claiming Cordero improperly filed her “resign-to-run” paperwork.
If she won, she would have been serving as both the clerk and commissioner for nearly a month, violating Florida law.
Cordero said it’s not worth litigating the issue.
Singh now faces Roberta Walton Johnson in the Aug. 18 Democratic primary, with the winner taking on independent candidate Terrell Thomas in the November general election.
The Orange County Supervisor of Elections is planning to send a card to Democratic voters explaining that, while Cordero’s name may still be on ballots already printed, votes for her will not be counted.
