Four people were shot in a shooting in the Jacksonville Heights area Monday afternoon, leaving one woman dead, according to police.
In a news briefing Monday afternoon, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Commander Jacob Vorpahl said officers responded to the area on Susie Street, near Old Middleburg Road North, at approximately 12:55 p.m. Monday after receiving multiple 911 calls about a shooting at a home.
Police found three people suffering from gunshot wounds, while another person had taken themself to the hospital. In total, Vorpahl said four people were shot: three men aged 33, 69 and 31, and a woman approximately 57 years old. She died at the hospital.
It was not immediately clear how the shooting unfolded, but Vorpahl said it appeared the shooting happened outside the home, and multiple guns were fired.
Police are working to collect witness and victim accounts. Multiple people were taken into custody for interviews.
“We always need and depend on the citizens’ help in a situation like this,” Vorpahl said.
