The Miami Dolphins just added a former first-round pick to one of their weakest rooms.
Miami signed edge Clelin Ferrell and waived defensive lineman Kahlil Saunders, the franchise announced Monday evening. An undrafted free agent from Kentucky, Saunders signed with the Dolphins in May.
The No. 4 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Ferrell has 57 starts and 21 sacks with four teams across his career.
Most recently, Ferrell played for the Los Angeles Chargers and San Francisco 49ers, racking up four sacks, two dozen total tackles and four tackles for loss in 2025. He also suited up for the Washington Commanders (2024) and the Las Vegas Raiders (2019-2022). Ferrell also had an original stint with the 49ers in 2023.
Unfortunately, the former Clemson standout has yet to live up to his high draft status. Arguably his best season came as a rookie when he racked up a career-high 4.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss and five pass deflections.
The Dolphins, however, have a clear need at edge rusher. Outside of Chop Robinson, there’s no clear standout opposite of the former first-round pick.
That means the likes of Josh Uche and David Ojabo will compete with Ferrell for a potential starting role.
