TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – WCTV is now the first local television station to have its very own WeatherSTEM station.
WeatherSTEM founder and CEO Ed Mansouri visited the WCTV studios Tuesday morning as field operations leader Tim Dotson hoisted the weather station up a ladder and onto the roof.
The WeatherSTEM station includes an HD camera to provide live views of outdoor weather conditions, as well as sensors that record real-time data such as temperature, humidity, and wind.
“Just last night in Tallahassee, parts of Leon County had at least an inch of rain, what was pretty much a severe thunderstorm and other parts of the county were completely dry, and that’s just in one county,” Mansouri said. “So when you think about our whole viewing area, west to Gadsden County all the way to Suwannee County and north into Georgia, on any given day, the weather just varies so much.”

“So we think, we hope that having these different views, having these different stations really helps Mr. McCall and the team really help the viewing area understand what’s going on in areas that are of importance to them,” he said.
WCTV’s WeatherSTEM station will also include new technology called “Bright,” which can alert our meteorologists to any changing weather conditions.
Mansouri said WCTV is the first local television station to have its own WeatherSTEM station and it’s painted with the station colors and logo.
“There’s no reason science equipment has to be ugly,” Mansouri said with a laugh. “We can make it look good.”

Mansouri says there are more than 100 WeatherSTEM stations across Florida and the Big Bend, including 20 in Leon County.
Many of the WeatherSTEM stations are installed at Emergency Operations Centers, schools and stadiums.
