(July 28, 2026) — On July 25, 2026, just before midnight, an officer in the Cape Coral Police Department’s DUI Unit was traveling eastbound on SW Pine Island Road approaching Nicholas Parkway when he observed two vehicles—a white Nissan Altima and a white Nissan Titan—traveling side by side ahead of him. The Titan was in the outside lane, while the Altima was in the inside lane.
As the officer approached the vehicles, both vehicles slowed to approximately 10–15 mph in the posted 50 mph zone and appeared to be communicating with one another while driving. As they approached the intersection of Nicholas Parkway, the vehicles aligned side by side and rapidly accelerated, appearing to race one another. During the acceleration, the Nissan Titan lost traction, causing the rear of the vehicle to fishtail before the driver regained control and continued accelerating to approximately 60 mph.
The officer caught up to the vehicles and activated his emergency lights and siren. Both vehicles immediately pulled over near the 900 block of SW Pine Island Road.
The officer made contact with the driver of the Nissan Titan, identified as Anthony Grass Perez (DOB: 03/01/2007), and advised him of the reason for the traffic stop.
Based on the investigation, both drivers were arrested and charged with Racing on a Highway.
Grass Perez was transported to the Lee County Jail. The other driver is a juvenile, and no identifying information will be released.
