It’s no secret that the Orlando International Airport is one of the busiest airports in America. When you have Disney World and Universal Studios in the same area, you can imagine how many people fly into MCO every year.

Orlando International Airport

We’ve gone through MCO many times, and we’ve seen how busy it gets. Well, the Orlando International Airport has become even busier, jumping in the ranking of busiest airports among U.S. airports.

An organization that tracks passenger numbers at airports called The Airports Council International has officially released its 2025 airport traffic report, and it shows that the Orlando International Airport has jumped two spots.

MCO has moved from the 9th busiest airport in 2024 to the 7th busiest airport in 2025. MCO has always been the busiest airport in Florida, but did you know that it is also now the 25th busiest airport in the entire world?!

MCO has seen a massive total of 57,675,573 passengers fly in and out of it in 2025. Almost 8.5 million of those passengers were international passengers. International growth has been a big thing at MCO, with the opening of its new international terminal, Terminal C, as well as new international routes being added in 2025. That includes new nonstop routes to Munich, Madrid, and Paris.

The airport now only sits behind Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, Chicago O’Hare, Denver, Los Angeles, and John F. Kennedy International in New York. Who knows if it will continue to climb next year.

The CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, which manages MCO, Lance Lyttle, connected the ranking increase to the broader growth of Central Florida as a destination. “These numbers are reflective of Central Florida’s continued growth and global appeal,” Lyttle said. “They also show why it is important to embrace a strategic vision that focuses on enhancing customer service while addressing critical infrastructure needs.”

MCO is also currently undergoing expansion plans, with $550 million being recently approved for various projects at the popular airport. Many things are on the horizon, including Terminal C’s taxiway expansions, improving terminal infrastructure, adding even more food and shopping options around the airport, and building new and expanding existing back-of-house operations facilities.
