Is Stephen Curry going to be traded from the Golden State Warriors? Probably not. But it seems far more possible than ever before. After his team failed to win the LeBron James sweepstakes, there have been rumblings that if the 12-time All-Star doesn’t sign an extension once he becomes eligible in August, he might push for a change of location to pursue one last championship.
It probably isn’t likely, but who would have thought James would sign an $8 million discount deal with the Philadelphia 76ers? If the future Hall of Famer were to force his way out of Golden State this summer, let’s look at five realistic destinations for the 38-year-old legend.
Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets clearly want to be a title contender now. That is why they traded for 16-time All-Star Kevin Durant a year ago. However, adding him to the mix didn’t work out as planned in 2026-27.
If Curry were looking to move to a team with a real chance to win a title soon, the Rockets would be an intriguing option. Especially if it meant teaming up with Durant one more time after they won a pair of titles at the tail end of the last decade. Houston could offer an interesting package of young talent (Jabari Smith Jr.), expiring contracts (Fred VanVleet) and draft picks.
San Antonio Spurs

The team many have looked at in recent days as a possible Curry trade landing spot is the San Antonio Spurs. While Victor Wembanyama has emerged as one of the game’s best players, he isn’t an elite scorer and finisher. Curry is certainly that.
Having the league’s most influential players on defense and offense on the same team would be intriguing. And the Spurs can make a solid offer that includes talented 28-year-old scorer De’Aaron Fox.
Orlando Magic

The Orlando Magic were expected to take a big leap forward following the addition of Desmond Bane last summer. Unfortunately, they did not play up to that potential in 2025-26. They are one team that would certainly be open to a bold move to become serious title contenders. And they can make an enticing offer that includes talented young forward Paolo Banchero.
The young star, Jalen Suggs, and draft picks would be an offer the Warriors would have to consider.
Charlotte Hornets

Another team linked to the recent Stephen Curry trade rumors is the Charlotte Hornets. The NBA legend grew up in the Charlotte area because his father, Dell, was a star for the Hornets for a decade. Furthermore, he has admitted his interest in playing there one day.
The Hornets could certainly make a strong offer since they have extra first-round picks in 2027 and 2029, and might include Kon Knueppel in a potential trade.
Cleveland Cavaliers

Another team that has been linked to a lot of trade rumblings in recent weeks, as well as one of the losing suitors for James, is the Cleveland Cavaliers. After reaching the Eastern Conference Finals last year, they aren’t that far off from being a title contender.
Would a trade involving Jarrett Allen and James Harden interest the Warriors? Maybe, if it included three future first-round picks. But the trio of Curry, Donovan Mitchell, and Evan Mobley would be a problem for the Eastern Conference in 2026-27.
