Dallas King, 13, and Logan Daniels, 18, were identified as victims in Saturday’s crash. Family said the boys shared a brother-like bond.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Family and friends are remembering two teenagers killed in a three-vehicle crash on Edgewood Avenue Saturday as hard workers with a bond like brothers.

The crash report from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as 13-year-old Dallas King and 18-year-old Logan Daniels. Both worked together at Big Daddy’s Barbecue, where family members said they were inseparable.

“We all grew up together, so the bond was real, really tight,” said Shamari Jones, Dallas’ cousin. “Couldn’t nothing get between them.”

Charles Wilson is Dallas’ grandfather and the owner of Big Daddy’s Barbecue. He said both boys loved working beside him.

“They loved it,” Wilson said. “Just had a great spirit, and they’re gonna be missed here greatly.”

Family members said the teens were in the back seat of a car headed to work Saturday morning when they stopped at a red light at Edgewood Avenue and Smyrna Street. According to police, a pickup truck towing a trailer carrying two cars failed to stop and rear-ended their car. The crash report said the truck was traveling at 50 mph in a 35-mph zone. Police said the tow truck came to rest on top of the Camry, the car the teens were in.

“Unbelievable,” Wilson said. “Because I’m like it wasn’t real, you know.”

Jones described Dallas as playful and affectionate.

“He’d lean on your shoulder and mess with you,” Jones said. “He can make you laugh too. That was a little love bug right there.”

The family said they held Logan just as close.

“I pretty much helped raise him,” Wilson said. “And Logan is like my little brother,” Jones added.

Logan died three days before his 19th birthday. Wilson said Logan’s parents are heartbroken.

James Daniels, the father of Logan, sent First Coast News a statement on Tuesday that stated: “To everyone that he encountered, he was either a son, a brother, or a friend. He was truly one of a kind.” 

“Disbelief, shock, couldn’t believe it,” Jones said. “But again, life, you know, life is life. Sometimes things happen that you can’t change.

First Coast News is still working to learn whether the driver of the tow truck will face charges.
