TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Florida was ranked number one for higher education by the US News and World Report, marking the 10th year of coming in first.
The State University System of Florida is celebrating by launching a special scholarship program called “Florida 10 for 10.”
The program will award up to $1,000 to 10 full-time undergraduate students at each participating university, including Florida State and FAMU.
Both university’s presidents are celebrating the ranking and thanking Governor DeSantis and the legislation for their contributions.
FSU’s President Richard McCullough praised Florida State’s contributions to student success and the “upward trajectory” of the school.
“As the oldest continuous site of higher education in Florida, Florida State University is proud to be part of the No. 1 State University System in the country,” McCullough said. “We are grateful for the investments that Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Legislature are making in higher education, which support FSU’s upward trajectory as one of the Top 25 public universities in the nation.”
Florida A&M University President Marva Johnson also shared a statement, describing the state universities as “essential engines of research, workforce development and economic opportunity across the state.”
“At Florida A&M University, we are proud to stand at the center of that achievement. As the nation’s No. 1 public HBCU for seven consecutive years, a Top 100 public national university, and Florida’s 1890 land-grant institution, our mission is not a historical footnote — it is a living mandate to conduct transformative research, educate leaders who serve communities, and extend knowledge in service to Florida and the nation. Together, we are proving that excellence rooted in purpose is not the exception — it is the standard,” Johnson said.
Applications for “Florida’s 10 for 10″ scholarships open Monday, August 3.
