DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. (CBS12) — A Georgia man says he focused on protecting his pregnant fiancée after a shark bit his foot while the couple was swimming off Florida’s Atlantic coast.
Jacorey High said he and his fiancée were visiting Daytona Beach Shores over the weekend when they entered the ocean and stood in about four feet of water.
High said a wave briefly lifted him before the shark clamped onto his foot.
He told WKMG that his first reaction was to push his fiancée toward shore, making sure she reached the sand before turning his attention to his own injuries.
After High managed to free his foot, he said the shark returned and appeared to make another attempt toward his arm and other leg.
High eventually reached the beach, where he saw the extent of the damage. He said the bite tore tendons in his foot and ankle and caused significant bleeding.
He was taken to a hospital for treatment and released Monday.

High said the experience unfolded within seconds, leaving little time to think beyond getting his pregnant fiancée out of danger.
The attack happened in Daytona Beach Shores, a coastal community in Volusia County south of Daytona Beach.
