Benchmark General Contractors will break ground Aug. 31 on Gulf Beach Condominium, a new 14-unit residential development at 527 E. Gulf Drive on Sanibel Island, marking another step in the island’s recovery from Hurricane Ian. The 28,542-square-foot building will rise two stories above parking and include a swimming pool and dune crossover providing beach access. Construction is expected to be completed by October 2027. The project was awarded by the Gulf Beach Condominium Association in April and is one of several multifamily developments helping restore Sanibel’s housing inventory. MK Architecture designed the project, with Michael D. Stewart, P.E., serving as engineer. Benchmark, a Southwest Florida-based contractor, has been involved in numerous rebuilding efforts across Sanibel and Captiva since the 2022 storm.
