PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — A suspected drunk driver fled Port St. Lucie police at nearly 80 mph in a 45 mph zone before he and his passenger abandoned their car and ran, with one suspect later found hiding on the roof of an occupied home.

According to the Port St. Lucie Police Department, officers attempted to stop a white Acura after observing multiple traffic violations and signs of impaired driving. Instead of pulling over, the driver accelerated to nearly 80 mph in a 45 mph zone on Southwest Becker Road.

Police said the driver and passenger weaved in and out of traffic, ignored traffic signs and signals, then abandoned the vehicle in a residential driveway near Southwest Idol Avenue before fleeing on foot.

A nearby resident called 911 after seeing the two men run from the scene. Police deployed a K-9 and a drone while officers established a perimeter.

Both suspects were located, including one who was found hiding on the roof of an occupied home, police said. The suspects were identified as Joseph Gary Harris, 42, and Bryan Shawn Baker, 46.
