TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Scattered thunderstorms are already developing this morning and will bring some decent rainfall rates and lightning to parts of the area.
Tracking storms this morning
As you are heading out the door, grab the rain gear. More showers and storms are expected this afternoon. To be blunt, computer models are NOT handling this atmosphere very well.
The NERD stuff: There is a weak stalled front to our north, which is accompanied by northwest flow aloft. During the summer, weak disturbances can develop along the northwest flow and change weather in a flash.
The REALLY tropical airmass and the disturbances are working together to generate morning showers and thunderstorms. The disturbance will be gone this afternoon, but daytime heating will help generate thunderstorms this afternoon and the sea breeze will act as another focus for storm development.
All this to say morning scattered storms. A brief midday break. Showers and thunderstorms likely this afternoon. In between the rain and clouds, it is going to be hot and humid. Heat index values as high as 110 this afternoon.
Wet Friday and weekend
Rain is likely on Friday as well. We will watch closely for any disturbances tomorrow morning, as it will help to lead to more showers and thunderstorms like this morning. At the least, rain is likely on Friday afternoon. Highs in the low 90s.
The weather pattern does not change this weekend, which means rounds of rain and storms are expected this weekend. Clouds, showers and storms will keep temperatures from climbing too high, in the mid to upper 80s.
