TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Construction is moving forward on the City of Tallahassee’s electric infrastructure project along Centerville Road, with crews nearing the end of phase three and planning to begin phase four later this year.
Jason Smith, a line crew foreman with the city, said crews are currently working on phase three, which runs between Trescott and Woodgate on Centerville Road. Smith called it “probably the most challenging phase we’ve had so far” because of the number of driveways, homes, roads and neighborhoods connected to that stretch.
“So trying to work with the traffic and get everybody in and out of their houses every day and around us has been a little more of a challenge,” Smith said, adding, “but we’re working through it good.”
Smith said the city expects to wrap up phase three in “about another week and a half or so.” After that, he said there will be a break before phase four begins, in part to avoid disrupting school bus routes once school starts back.
“We wanted to take a little break at school buses on their normal routes, and then we’re going to start back on phase four in the end of September,” Smith said.
Phase four is expected to run from Woodgate to near Capitol Circle, “right in front of CHP,” Smith said. He added that crews will return to nighttime work during that phase to reduce daytime impacts.
“We’ll be back to working at night, so we won’t be impacting everybody through the middle of the day again on that,” Smith said.
