Childhood friends found shot to death behind Central Florida theater
DELAND, Fla. —
An investigation is underway into the shooting deaths of two young men who police say were childhood friends, according to the DeLand Police Department.
DeLand’s police chief said officers responded to the area of 213 W. New York Ave. to an “emotional and sad situation” after 10 p.m. on Wednesday night when someone called 911 about two people who appeared to be dead on a vacant industrial property behind a local theater.
Police said Dustin Rose, 19, and Samson Campbell, 18, were found with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene.
Rose is from DeLeon Springs and had been living South Carolina where he was a student at the Citadel and a member of South Carolina Army National Guard.
Campbell is from DeLand and recently moved to Chicago.
Police said they believe one of the teen’s mother found them and called authorities.

Their bodies were taken by the Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office. DeLand PD is waiting on details.
No motives or suspects have been determined, police said.
DeLand PD is asking for the public’s help in solving the case. Anyone who saw or heard anything is asked to contact the DeLand Police Department.
