A man has been arrested after police said he vandalized the Bay of Pigs monument in Miami.
Jean Carlo Rojas, 28, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of criminal mischief involving a memorial or historic property, Miami-Dade jail records showed.
The alleged incident happened the night of July 25 at the monument on Southwest 8th Street in Little Havana.
The monument honors the lives lost in the failed invasion of Cuba in April 1961 and is owned by the City of Miami.

According to an arrest report, a gray missile that’s part of the monument was reported damaged the next day, July 26.
The damaged missile had previously been repaired following a separate act of vandalism, and the new vandalism incident caused about $1,000 in damage, the report said.
Police later obtained surveillance footage that showed the suspect step on the missile portion, causing it to break.
While officers were at the scene investigating, one spotted Rojas on the sidewalk of the monument and recognized him from the surveillance footage, the report said.
Rojas was arrested and booked into jail. Attorney information wasn’t available.
