JACKSONVILLE – The secondary continues to grow and mature.
That remains a theme early in Jaguars 2026 Training Camp, which continued Thursday at the Miller Electric Center with a one-hour, 45-minute practice in helmets and no pads – a day that featured plenty of work in the passing game.
For a talented secondary in its second season in coordinator Anthony Campanile‘s defense, it was another productive day.
“Anytime there’s familiarity, you can hit the ground running a little bit more,” Campanile said following Thursday’s practice.
“We probably have, I would say a little bit more in than we did at this point last year.”
The Jaguars’ defense through two days of camp has produced several plays on the ball. Cornerbacks Jarrian Jones and Jourdan Lewis each broke up two passes Thursday, with defensive backs Jabbar Muhammad and Devon Marshall also recording pass breakups.
“We have a pretty comprehensive system,” Jaguars safety Eric Murray said Thursday. “People like me, [safety Antonio Johnson], and people who’ve been in the system before and got the year under their belt, we are able to relay the information to [everyone] way better.
“They’re coming along very quickly.”
Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen said during the offseason program he was pleased with the progress of the secondary – progress that has continued early in camp and that Campanile said must continue in the coming weeks.
“But at the end of the day, it’s about repetition,” Campanile said. “It’s a muscle memory type of sport. Like anything else, like in martial arts, you have to get better and better and better.
“You get better by doing things over and over and over again. More is more. More reps, more opportunity to get out here and practice. More reps in the walkthrough. That’s what we need right now. I think that’s what everybody needs this time at camp.”
