TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Florida Department of Health (FDOH) says there are 95 new cases of Cyclospora and a few more in the Big Bend.
There are three new cases in Leon County, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 4. There are no other cases in the Big Bend area.
Since June 1, there have been 246 reported cases of the parasite. There have been a total of 258 reported cases in Florida this year.
Cyclospora is a microscopic parasite that infects food that has come into contact with human feces, most commonly when produce is irrigated or washed with contaminated water.
The parasite causes intestinal illness when ingested, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
