‘I don’t know what to do’: Man calls 911 after shooting man who killed his cousin
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. —
A 911 call released Thursday by Port St. Lucie Police provides insight into why a man shot and killed another man last week.
The shooting happened in the early morning hours of July 19 on Southeast Rivergreen Circle.
Two men were killed.
Investigators said 24-year-old Carl Loubeau mistook 22-year-old Juliun Stokes for someone he believed was hitting on his girlfriend, so he shot and killed him.
Stokes’ cousin, Dwayne Walker, returned fire, killing Loubeau.
Walker then called 911.
“911. Do you need police, fire or ambulance?” the dispatcher asked.
“Please, please help. Somebody shot my cousin, and I shot back. I don’t know what to do,” Walker said.
Walker pleaded for help for Stokes during the call.
“That’s my cousin, sir. We need help, please,” he said. “He’s got two kids. Please help. You have to hurry up. Please, sir.”
When police arrived, they ordered Walker to drop the phone and get on the ground.
He complied but continued speaking with the dispatcher.
“What did this start over?” the dispatcher asked.
“We were just coming to the house, and her boyfriend shot my cousin. That’s it. That’s all. Because my cousin said, ‘Hey’ to him and he laughed. And he said, ‘Do I know you?’ and he shot my cousin. So I shot back, sir,” Walker said.
Police determined Walker acted in self-defense. The investigation is ongoing, but authorities said they do not expect to file any charges.
