JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (WBRC) – A Jacksonville State men’s basketball player has been arrested in connection to a rape investigation in east Alabama.
According to Jacksonville Police, 21-year-old Daniel Adegboyega, an international student at Jacksonville State, was taken into custody Wednesday morning after a welfare check was requested by a woman of a concerned friend.

Police said they arrived to an apartment complex in the 600 block of Ivy Row NE and found Adegboyega and a woman. Officials said they noticed the woman was uncomfortable and seemed to want to leave the building.
The woman was then taken to her home where she was interviewed. Police say they then interviewed Adegboyega and made an arrest.
Jax State Athletics released the following statement to WBRC Thursday night:
We are aware of the arrest. In response, the individual has been suspended from the men’s basketball team. Because the matter did not occur on campus and remains under active investigation by the Jacksonville Police Department, questions regarding the investigation should be directed to the Jacksonville Police Department.
Police said Adegboyega is being held at the Calhoun County Jail without bond, and a court date is pending the result of an Aniah’s Law hearing.
