TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – “DOGust 1st” is recognized each year on August 1st as a way to celebrate the birthdays of shelter dogs, whose birthdays are usually unknown.
“We don’t actually know their birthdays but we’re celebrating anyway,” the Animal Shelter Foundation’s Kate MacFall said as an adoptable dog named Wiley played with a stuffed lobster at her feet. ”We are hoping a lot of people in the community come out and meet their new family member.”
To celebrate DOGust 1st, the Tallahassee Animal Service Center will be waiving adoption fees for adult dogs and cats this Saturday between noon and 5 p.m.

Perhaps some of the dogs recently featured on Furry Friday – or those we’re featuring today – will be adopted then!
Furry Friday is a weekly collaboration between WCTV and the Tallahassee Animal Service Center designed to get dogs out of their kennels and into the spotlight in hopes of helping them find fur-ever homes, faster.

Cornelius is family friendly and his last family did a great job of teaching him to be a polite pup. Dole out a few treats and he will gladly show you how he can sit, stay, lay down and more!
Cornelius is labrador retriever/catahoula leopard hound mix who only wound up at the shelter because of his previous owner’s allergies.
Cornelius is friendly and fun and would make a perfect addition to an active, affectionate family. Come check out his easygoing personality and boyish good looks at the shelter this weekend!

Smore is a snuggle bug who is seeking a lifetime of love, laps … and belly rubs!(WCTV)

This Siberian Husky sports one brown, one blue eye and has a knack for seeking out belly rubs!
Smore came in as a stray with her best friend Marshmellow and both are sweet, gentle and petite.
Smore enjoyed stretching out in the cool green grass and exploring all the sights, sounds and smells the trails of Tom Brown Park had to offer.
Smore is a snuggle bug who is seeking a lifetime of love and laps!

Marshmellow came in as a stray with her best friend Smore and both are sweet, gentle and petite.
No wonder she has “mellow” in her name – she’ll nuzzle you to ask for more head scratches and belly rubs and thoroughly enjoys stretching out in the tall green grass at your feet.

This beagle mix is ready to bounce along at your side … or in your arms!

MEET AND GREET
You can meet these dogs and dozens more awaiting adoption at the Tallahassee Animal Service Center. It’s located across from Tom Brown Park at 1125 Easterwood Drive in Tallahassee.
You can walk through the kennels Tuesday through Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and can also visit by appointment the rest of the week from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
