Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signs another death warrant
Florida will execute Harold Gene Lucas over the death of his 16-year-old former girlfriend in Bonita Springs almost 50 years ago. The warrant calls for Lucasto die September 1 by lethal injection at Florida State Prison in Starke. It is the 14th execution order that DeSantis has signed this year, after a modern-era record 19 executions last year. The next scheduled execution in Florida will be William Frances Silvia on August 18.
AccuWeather keeps the same hurricane season forecast
The AccuWeather hurricane forecast stands at an anticipated eight to 14 named storms, with four to seven growing into hurricanes. AccuWeather meteorologists issued the update Wednesday, indicating a 90 percent chance a Super El Niño will form this summer, which will strengthen conditions “suppressing tropical activity in the Atlantic.” So far, the Atlantic has seen two tropical storms, Arthur and Bertha, both of which affected parts of the nation’s Gulf Coast.
