MIAMI, Fla. (WCJB) – Officials with the Florida Lottery announced the arrest of a United States Postal Service (USPS) employee accused of stealing a winning ticket.
They say Lekaysha Lockhart, a USPS letter carrier, redeemed a winning Pick 4 at the Florida Lottery office in Miami on June 19.
An investigation began after a lottery player reported that she mailed her winning ticket through the postal service, but it never reached its destination.
Lottery agents and USPS investigators arrested Lockhart last week, and they say she confessed to stealing the ticket.
She was charged with Grand Theft, Dealing in Stolen Property, Filing a False Claim for Payment, two counts of Unlawful Use of a Two-Way Communications Device, and Mail Theft.
“Our players deserve confidence that every Lottery prize is protected through strong security measures and diligent oversight,” said Florida Lottery Secretary Reginald D. Dixon.
