TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Several local state prisons are eligible for a new $1,000 hiring bonus offered by the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC), according to a press release.
Of Florida’s correctional institutions, 13 can qualify for the new bonus. This bonus comes along with the $5,000 retention bonus some prisons already have.

The prisons that are eligible for the $1,000 hiring bonus once it’s approved by the FDC Criminal Justice Standards & Training Commission include:
Apalachee CI (Sneads)Calhoun CI (Blountstown)Dade CI (Florida City)Florida State Prison (Raiford)Franklin CI (Carrabelle)Gulf CI (Wewahitchka)Hamilton CI (Jasper)Jackson CI (Malone)Liberty CI (Bristol)Northwest Florida Reception Center (Chipley) Okeechobee CI (Okeechobee)Santa Rosa CI (Milton) Taylor CI (Perry)
FDC correctional officers reportedly have a starting salary of $22 per hour.
Florida Department of Corrections Assistant Deputy Secretary of Institutions Hope Gartman said in the press release that the bonus showcases their dedication.
