Florida AG pens letter regarding vaccine mandates at Catholic schools
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. —
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier sent a letter to the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops on Friday regarding vaccine mandates at Catholic schools.
In a post on X, Uthmeier shared the following statement:
“Today, I sent a letter to the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops regarding their schools’ vaccine mandates.
“Ironically, they won’t offer religious exemptions as prescribed by state law.
“This is troubling and may disqualify them from state scholarships and vouchers.”
The Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops responded to Uthmeier’s statement and letter by sharing the following with Gulf Coast News:
“We are reviewing the letter and will respond to the Attorney General by his requested date of August 7. Be assured, Florida’s Catholic schools are operating in accord with the law and Church teaching.”
